RAFA spring fair

Romantic novels, thrillers, hardbacks and gardening guides - the book sale was doing great business at the RAFA spring fair at the Albatross club on Saturday.

Geoff Brown and Peter Fagg were in charge of the book stall as visitors browsed through hundred of titles to find the perfect purchase.

Geoff said: "We have so many books we can't put them all out, but we have sold a lot this morning, and they are in good condition. They are all donations and we have had a lot more in this week. We get a lot of Air Force ones - one chap actually bought 20 of them this morning."

The spring sale also featured videos, cds, bric-a-brac, home-made cakes and a raffle.

RAFA club chairman Len Oliver said: "This is all for the club funds, to pay for improvements to the club. I think we have had a good response - I think Geoff has sold a lot of books, and Sandra Passfield is doing fantastically with her marmalade and cakes - most of this has been organised by Lorraine Streeter. I would also like to thank the tea lady ... Evelyn Oliver."

The event was attended by branch members and supporters, including the lovely Elsie Igglesden who came with husband Ken, longtime branch president.

The fair raised 615, which included a 200 donation.

Branch president Ken Igglesden said: "The club wanted 600 to buy vertical blinds, and that's what they got so they are very pleased with it."
