Rail service branded the misery line

RAIL services supplied by Southern Railway in West Sussex have been dubbed 'the misery line' by commuters, who have launched a campaign group to hold the rail company to account.

The group has attacked Southern Rail for its 'abysmal service' to passengers between October and January when almost one in every four of its peak hours trains on the Sussex coastline arrived late.

The figures are the worst for any commuter rail service in the UK, with services which include those to Gatwick Airport, Crawley, Horsham and Chichester now so bad that it has prompted the campaign group launch.

The severe delays and cancellations to the services in the last three months are causing tens of thousands of Sussex-based commuters to be late to work or home virtually every day.

The service hit an all-time low in January, when only 70 per cent of trains ran on time '“ the lowest figure since Southern took over.

Sussex Rail Action will campaign to improve services and hold the rail companies to account.
