Rainbows are '¨looking for '¨a new leader

The 3rd Felpham Rainbows are on the look-out for a new boss and would be pleased to hear from anyone who thinks they would be up for the job.

The unit’s current leaders, Donna Tarrant and Paula Bentley, who have led the group for the past ten years, are being forced to step down because of work commitments.

Donna said: “Myself and my colleague Paula have loved running the unit, but with new work commitments we just don’t have the time to be able to do it any more.

“I have started a new job and Paula is working 
full-time which means we can’t dedicate ourselves to the unit like we used too.

“We set the unit up ten years ago, we started it just after the October half-term in the November, as there was a real need for a group in the Felpham area, there was not anything really this side of Bognor.

“We really don’t want the unit to close as the girls would be so disappointed, especially the new ones who have just joined us recently.”

So what do you need to be a good Rainbow leader?

“You need to be enthusiastic and have lots of energy,” said Donna.

The new leader would also need to be available for the unit’s weekly meetings which take place at 4.45pm 
to 5.45pm on Thursday’s in the Sea Scouts hut in Vicarage Lane.

There would also be 
some meetings with other leaders, but there is plenty 
of support available to anyone who takes on 
the role.

Donna said: “We do follow a framework at the Rainbows, but the emphasis is all about having fun.

“We try really hard to make it not like school, so the girls can learn different things.

“We also like to go out on lots of different outings whenever we can, depending on the helpers we have.”

The current unit is made up of 14 youngsters, all aged between five and seven.

Donna said: “It really is a lovely group. The girls are fantastic.

“Leading the unit is a joy, 
it is fantastic.

“It is incredibly rewarding and seeing the children having such a good time is a brilliant feeling. We will both miss it hugely.”
