Recycling facility featured on prime time TV

Bang Goes the Theory presenter Jem Stansfield explores the cutting edge technology used at the Viridor operated MRF, which sorts and separates recyclable materials ready for reprocessing and manufacturing into new goods; reducing energy use and the need for raw materials.

The programme will research how smart technology sorts materials, including paper, metal cans, plastic bottles and glass containers from a mixed collection service into 13 different material types, whilst ensuring the quality of the end products meets stringent market specifications.

Deborah Urquhart, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for the Environment and Economy, said “Ford MRF is the vital hub facility enabling West Sussex County Council and our District and Borough Council partners to achieve high levels of recycling by offering householders easy, convenient and cost-effective recycling services. Effective communications and education are also important and we are pleased that Bang Goes the Theory will show the technology behind the MRF to a primetime audience.”
