Redundancy not the end of the road

Terry Haley, of Bennetts Road, Horsham, was informed last Monday (February 20) that he may be the most highly qualified printer in the UK.

The 30 year old father of two was made redundant from a Horsham printing company in November last year after working there for almost 14 years.

Fortunately Terry had pre-empted this redundancy and started the NVQ printing qualification in April that year and rushed to complete the course before being put out of a job.

“I was one of the first people to do the NVQ and as I finished it before anyone else did making me the first person to have the qualification.”

He managed to complete the 18 month course in just six months but had to wait until last Monday to discover whether he had passed.

“Most people have their NVQ sent back with stuff to change but mine went straight through.”

Terry, who now works at a printing company in Southwater, has received one success after the other this year, including one from his scuba diving club, Crawley Divers.

“I was made scuba diver of the year last month. This month I found out that I’m the top printer in the UK. So I wonder what next month will bring!”
