Referendum: Town needs your support

I know almost all Observer readers, and most residents, have the greatest regard for our town, Bognor Regis, and only want the best for it.

All too often in the past, I have heard people grumble - young and old -about how much better Bognor could be if there were more facilities, more for residents and visitors, and how the town would benefit from the right amount of investment and improvement to its environment and appearance.

But my message now is to the people of our town. If that is what you truly believe, it's now time to stand up and be counted.

We have a town poll - a town referendum - in Bognor Regis on Wednesday, June 4, which will give local residents the best chance they will ever have to influence the designs and plans for the regeneration of Bognor Regis - plans that will hopefully deliver the improvements we all want, to make Bognor Regis the best place to live and enjoy.

It has got to be the regeneration we as townspeople want, and I do not think anyone should be afraid to say what it is they want - and what it is they don't want.

All those questions you will need, to achieve this, will be on the ballot paper you receive at the polling station when you go down to vote. Please come out and support your town.

If you are an elector in the town wards of Bognor Regis, you will have received a polling card already, and everyone is voting at their normal polling stations. (This is except for voters who usually vote at the University campus in Hotham ward. This time you will be voting at the Friary Arms instead). The stations will be open from 4pm to 9pm.

I was sorry to see the polling cards this year don't have the questions on them - I understand they did for the Town Hall poll some years ago. My worry is some people will have no idea what these are for.

A plea to Observer readers today - please do remind your friends, relatives and neighbours that Wednesday< June 4 is Vote for Bognor day and explain why they have got polling cards if they don't know already.

Together - but only together - we can give the message on what we want for our town's future. I urge your readers, if they live in the parish wards of Bognor Regis, to make every effort to come out on Wednesday and help make that a reality, and thank them for doing so, whatever their views.
