Refurbished family house close to Chichester city centre with a superb open-plan kitchen/lounge

Buying a new property there are a number of things that will be high up on the checklist, with location usually one of the top priorities – just ask Kirstie and Phil.

It is also one of the key reasons why Dan Gick bought the detached family property in Donnington.

“I work in Sidlesham so the location was a key factor for me. You are close to the Witterings and I lived in Bosham for 26 years so have family nearby who I can visit.”

The property on Stockbridge Road is less than a mile from Chichester city centre and a short walk from Donnington local shops.

“There wasn’t much going on in Bosham when I was younger so to be close to Chichester city centre near the shops and restaurants where things are always going on has been ideal,” said Dan.

Dan bought the property in October 2014, with the location and the fact it needed a lot of work adding to the appeal of the home.

“I did a lot of work to it as it hadn’t been touched for a while,” he explained.

“I changed the layout of the property, opened up the kitchen/diner living space, changed the drive so that it could fit more than one car on it as it was really overgrown before.”

However, Dan didn’t carry the work out as soon as he moved in but decided to live in the property for a year to see what did and didn’t work.

Once the work commenced it was done in nine months and added a more modern feel to the home.

“We did more to the property than we intended to,” he said.

“It started that we were replastering and then thought well we better rewire and it grew and grew.”

Alongside changing the layout the house has had new plumbing and electrics installed and Dan says it is an energy efficient home.

His favourite room is the open plan kitchen diner with bifold doors which open out on the garden.

“It catches the sun as there is a glazed panel in the roof, it is just a lovely space and when the doors are open you can enjoy the garden while you cook,” he said.

The garden is low maintenance and feels very secluded, Dan explained how you can enjoy the hot tub while not feeling overlooked by any neighbours.

There is also a log cabin and garage which he adds is very useful.

As an 1950s house one thing that isn’t an issue is noise.

“It is a detached house and because of the brick walls you don’t hear any noise, you can’t hear neighbours or traffic or anything going on outside it is really quiet,” he said.

As to why he is moving a new challenge is one reason and family is another.

“We want to expand our family and while the house is good for now we would like a bit more space,” he said.

“I will miss it here though the location is great and the house provides a great space to entertain.”

Which leaves the door open for the next person to come in and make this house their home.
