Rescue centre opens its doors

Patron of the charity, Brett MacLean, announced the day “Open”, followed shortly after by Paraequestrian rider, Emily Lawes giving a display in the arena with her horse, “Drizzle”.

After each of Emily’s displays children flocked to stroke the horse, which remained very quite and gentle.

Performing on stage were the colourful Iceni Belly dancers and the Ooh La La Cancan dancers.

The Hunters Moon Morris from Eastbourne, led by Pip, the “Bagman” were rewarded with rousing applause as the played and danced in their black and silver costumes with blackened faces.

Cheryl Cooper was not only performing herself as Cancan dancer but also had her group of young dancers, the Cherry Dance, performing on the stage.

They gave a variety of solo, duo and group performances. The dog show included both pedigree and novelty classes judged respectively by Pat and Peter Banks supported by stewards, Julie Honeyball and Sonja Braysher.

The red setter was the overall “best in show”.

Stalls included Morag Hocking with her beautiful plant stall, dog treats, jewellery, cards, original paintings and three politic al stalls.

Several classic cars were on display and the yolungsters enjoyed the children’s corner with its bouncy castle, trampolines and pony rides managed by Wendy Cornwell with several tireless helpers.

Angela Mitchell, together with several volunteers, sold the teas and cakes and the Bexhill Lions cooked and served the barbecue.

£4,000 was raised for the Rescue centre on the day and the Trustees convey their sincere thanks to everyone that contributed to the successful event.
