Residents still without water in Mid Sussex

Scores of customers are still without water this morning (Sunday, September 23) due to a burst water main.

Parts of Hurstpierpoint were left without water yesterday (Saturday, September 22).

Engineers from South East Water arrived to try and repair the damage, even working all last night.

The incident happened in Cuckfield Road, between the junctions of Western Road and Willow Way.

South East Water handed out bottled water to residents in Hurstpierpoint and surrounding areas who lost their supply after two bursts to the water main.

Steve Andrews, incident manager at South East Water, said up to 2,800 properties had no water or low pressure yesterday.

He said: “We are very sorry to our customers in the Hurstpierpoint and surrounding areas who are without water this morning.

“We repaired two 10inch diameter burst water mains yesterday (Saturday), however we are still getting calls from customers who are without supplies, so our teams have been working through the night to find the cause of the problem.

“At this stage we can’t say when water supplies will return to normal but we are working as quickly as possible to resolve it.

“We know it has been a difficult time for our customers in this area who have been without water or with low pressure for some time.

“Areas affected include: Albourne, Sayers Common, Hickstead, Ansty, Bolney, Hassocks, Haywards Heath and Henfield.

“We have supplies of bottled water at our stations at South Downs Nursery, Brighton Road, Hassocks BN6 9LY and Kings Business Centre, Reed Lane, Sayers Common BN6 9LS.
