Residents wait to see if this year's crop of produce will hit all the high notes

CARE home residents resorted to eccentric methods to coax maximum growth from this year's crop.

A group singalong, lead by local troubadours Bill and Louise Musical Entertainment, was part of a traditional festival to encourage a good harvest, according to home manager Heather-Louise Pearson.

"Although," she added, "it's basically an excuse for a sing-a-long and a party. They had a fantastic time and we had quite a lot of local visitors in, which lifts everyone's mood.

"We have a 101-year-old living nearby who comes in every so often. It's a fantastic thing that they do."

Residents recently planted a host of vegetables, and are hoping to use them in soups later this year.

The BUPA-run care home, in Brookfield Road, is already planning their next event - a Wimbledon strawberry tea day on June 12, ahead of the tennis tournament which runs from June 21-July 4.
