Mill Stream practice in North Street will close on Saturday May 31 - affecting more than 4,000 patients.

In a letter to Nick Herbert, MP for Arundel and South Downs, NHS England has revealed why it took the shock decision to shut it down.

Amanda Fadero, area director for the Sussex and Surrey Area Team, said: “The decision to close the practice was reached following ongoing concerns about the practice and is sadly unavoidable. We regret the closure of the surgery at relatively short notice, and we have apologised to patients for the inconvenience, but we will do our best to ensure that the 4,400 patients continue to have access to GP services.

“Unfortunately, Dr Bailey has been unable to provide sufficient assurances as to the management of her contract and the protection of her patients despite significant support and guidance from Surrey and Sussex Area Team. NHS

England has therefore concluded that the only appropriate option in this case is to issue a termination notice.”
