Revised scheme for Colwall Court re-development

A REVISED version of a rejected scheme to re-develop the Colwall Court site in Pages Avenue carries a recommendation from Rother planning officers for approval.

The application will come before Thursday's planning meeting.

It would involve demolition of the 12-bedroomed premises once used by the Stars Organisation for Spastics as a holiday home and latterly by Phoenix House as a drugs rehabilitation centre.

The revised scheme is for 10 flats and three detached bungalows with garages and 20 parking spaces.

The building backs on to properties in Cooden Drive and Southcourt Avenue.

A scheme for 11 flats and three bungalows was refused last year because of the effect on the character and appearance of the area, the effect on the living conditions of neighours because of overlooking.

A report from planning officers says revisions relate to the size, design and external appearance of the proposed development.

A letter of objection from Southcourt Avenue says a large apartment block would be out of character in the area.

Officers say it is a brownfield site and therefore planning permission should only be given for redevelopment if this would be consistent with the county and Rother Local Plans.
