HISTORY STUDY GROUP: The Christmas meeting will be held tonight (Friday) at 7.45pm in the Village Hall. The event will be in two halves, separated by an interval in which we shall be serving mulled wine and mince pies, financed by our Christmas raffle. Raffle prizes brought on the evening will be much appreciated. Before the interval Rosemary Page will lead us through a month of the diary entries of Ringmer builder’s wife Nancy Martin in the run up to Christmas 1883. 2016 has been a good year for the acquisition of new photographs of Ringmer, and after the interval Bob Cairns will be showing us some of the recent additions to the collection.

FOOTBALL & SOCIAL CLUB: This Saturday the first team are away at Billingshurst in a SCFL Div 1 fixture whilst the seconds entertain Mile Oak at the Caburn also in a league fixture. Both games kick-off at 3.00pm. On Sunday the Veterans are at home versus Balcombe Vets in the Fred Pretty cup and kick-off is at 2.00pm at the Caburn. On Saturday evening there is live music in the bar when local band, The Governors, entertain from 8.00pm until late. There will be an extra quiz this month when we run a fun Christmas themed quiz on Thursday 22nd December.

ST MARY’S: On Sunday at 10am, we welcome Neil Graham who will speak to us about the work of Embrace, one of our chosen charities for the 2016 Christmas Collections. The Carol Service will take place on Sunday evening at 6.30pm with a selection of carols and readings for Advent. And for another fix of carols - the church will welcome the choir from Ringmer Primary School on Wednesday 14th to sing to an invited audience of grandparents and parents. Everyone is welcome to attend at 2pm. On Tuesday 13th from 3pm, anyone bereaved (recently or not) is warmly invited to enjoy a Cuppa and Company in the church room. If transport is needed please do let anyone at the church know. At 4pm next Sunday 18th please remember it is the Families Tea Time Service with the retelling of a very special story, some songs and craft to celebrate this Christmas season. Children of all ages are most welcome!

BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday 30th November, the result of the duplicate pairs played was 1st, Pam Brook & Frank Hibbert; 2nd, Carol Holloway & Hazel North; 3rd, Liz & Tim Owen. The club next meets in the St. Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30 pm. Contact 814220.

CHRISTMAS CARDS: A final reminder that St Peter & St James Hospice Christmas Cards are on sale now at the Wednesday Coffee Break in the Village Hall, 10 to 12 noon.

FATHER CHRISTMAS: The Rotary Club of Lewes will be bringing Father Christmas to Ringmer with their Tree of Goodwill on Thursday 15 December covering the Springett Avenue, Sadlers and Mill Estates areas commencing from the clock tower. The following evening, Friday 16, we will be starting at Broyle Lane covering the Broyle Estate, Bishops Lane, Christie/Delves Estates and finishing along the Lewes Road. Both evenings will start at 6pm.

HORTICULTURAL & HOME PRODUCE SOCIETY: In November we held the our AGM. The Chairman reported that the new committee was working well and that the summer show had been a success. It was proposed and agreed that the link with the Royal British Legion will end and that we will be reformed as the RINGMER HORTICULTURAL & HOME PRODUCE CLUB. Next year there will be a spring and summer show. An increased range of benefits will be available to members. For further details contact the secretary, Chris Browning, on 01273812672.
