FOOTBALL AND SOCIAL CLUB: Tomorrow, Saturday, the first team are away to Bexhill Utd in a SCFL Div 1 fixture whilst the seconds are at home to Saltdean Utd reserves, also in a league fixture. Both games kick-off at 3pm. In the clubhouse bar on Thursday evening the regular monthly quiz takes place, usual format 50 general knowledge questions, teams of up to four and just a £1 per team member to enter and all are welcome at this event. Registration is from 7.30pm for a prompt 8pm start to the quiz. The Christmas draw is now up and running in the clubhouse with all proceeds going towards the prizes.

ST MARY’S: Everyone is welcome to the Christmas Fair tomorrow (Saturday) 10am to 12.30pm. Free admission to a lovely array of stalls selling gifts and goodies. Also, a Grand Draw with a top prize of £100, a tombola, a raffle and games and activities for all ages. Advent starts this Sunday. The first candle will be lit and during the 10am service the travelling crib will be sent on its way to families across Ringmer. Holy Communion service takes place at 8am and there will be a special quiet meditative service with readings and songs for Advent at 6.30pm. Prayers for people. You may not know, but we have a list of individuals for whom we prayer every day. These people have asked for prayer to guide them through illness, bereavement or any other difficult times and our list is due to be reviewed. You may know someone who would like to be held in our prayers (only first names are used) and if so why not email Shirley Squires at [email protected]. On Monday the Circle of Quiet meets at 10am in the church for 30 minutes of silent prayer. New members are welcome to attend at this new time for winter months (every fourth Monday at 10am) and stay for a cup of coffee afterwards.

BAPTIST CHURCH: Regular Services in the village hall: Sundays at 10.30am and 6pm. Communion usually celebrated on second Sunday (morning) and fourth Sunday (evening) each month. Sunday and Youth Clubs available. This Sunday at 2.30pm to 5pm we have our popular Messy Church Service in Ringmer Village Hall. Come along and enjoy a fun time for all the family with games, crafts and songs. Free Tea and refreshments served. The Ringmer Food Bank, run by Ringmer Baptist Church, is open every Monday from 1.15pm to 2.15pm. Located in the village hall (Rogers Room) it is available to individuals and families referred to us by local welfare organisations. BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday November 16, the result of the duplicate pairs played was: 1, Alan Disney and Roy Skan; 2, Frank Hibbert and George Montgomery; 3, Alan Grindley and Johnny Walker. The club next meets in the St Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Contact 814220.

BOWLS CLUB: Ringmer Bowls Club are holding a Christmas Coffee Morning on Saturday December 3 at 10am in the Clubhouse on the Village Green. Entry 50p to include coffee. All the usual stalls.

LIGHTS OF LOVE: Our annual service of remembrance, in support of St Peter and St James Hospice, will be held at the church at 4pm on Saturday December 3. As usual, the lights on the Christmas tree in the churchyard will be switched on immediately prior to the service. If you wish to sponsor a light in memory of a loved one, and have not already done so, forms may be obtained from the church, or Wednesday Coffee Break in the village hall, or from Thelma Saunders, Powderham, 2 Shepherds Way, Ringmer, BN8 5LS, tel. 01273 812822. These should be returned to Thelma before December 1 at the latest.

MU: The Ringmer Branch of MU is a large and very welcoming group of like-minded ladies (but we would like men to join us if they wish) and we meet once a month on the second Tues. at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church Room. We start the meeting with prayers and then the current business is discussed. We then usually have a speaker which is followed by tea/coffee/biscuits. Our 2017 programme looks to be very interesting. GOOD NEIGHBOURS: Ringmer Good Neighbours is continuing to provide help to residents of Ringmer in providing transport for medical appointments, assistance with shopping and befriending. If you require this service, please telephone 07340 118758. The phone is managed between 10am to 11am and 3pm to 4pm. If you leave a message your call will be returned. The volunteers are busy people and we would appreciate more drivers (which does involve a DBS check).
