Riots continue at HMP Ford

FORD prison is in flames, as inmates continue to riot.

Violence erupted just after midnight today (Saturday, January 1), and about 40 prisoners set fire to two buildings, a gym complex and a portacabin, and smashed windows.

Warders were forced to leave, and specialist teams sent in to deal with the incident.

At about 12.30pm, three more residential buildings were set ablaze, and scores of firefighters are currently at the scene. Soon after, police closed Ford Road to traffic.

The incident is thought to have started after inmates refused to be breathalysed.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “We have no reports of any injuries to staff or prisoners at this stage.”
