Rye Town Council planning committee chairman Cllr Bernardine Fiddimore said: “The site is quite derelict at the moment and there is proposal to re-open it as a cafe.”

Cllr John Breeds said: “To see it cleaned up and in use again would be a great asset.”

The cafe, which is situated at the St Margarets Terrace end of Strand Quay has a riverside terrace.

When it first opened it was used for a number of events including live jazz music on summer afternoons.

The applicant submitting the plans is Mr S King of Mill Road, Rye.
