ST MARY’S SALEHURST: Start this Sunday with Holy Communion at 9am at the Mission Room and 11am at Salehurst for Mattins. This is a long awaited appointment for our village and everyone is welcome to attend to be part of the celebrations.

BOOT SALE: Robertsbridge Bonfire Society is holding a Boot Sale this week Sunday at Robertsbridge Recreation Ground. It is open to sellers at 11am to set up your pitch and at 12 noon for people to go in and wander about to find a bargain. There will be a pitch charge of £10 if booked in advance by ringing 880468 or on the day at £15. There will be no charge for the buyers but there will be donation buckets on the gate. Please give generously.

ROBERTSBRIDGE CLUB: Are presenting the Red Tooth Poker League starting on Monday. This is a thirteen-week season and cost £5 per week. For more details either pop into the club or ring 880673. The league winners will get the chance to play in Las Vegas.

One for the calendar, on September 25 at Robertsbridge Club there is to be a music event for Absent Friends. This will be a charity event and will be in memory of people that have been lost over the last few years. More details to follow nearer the time.

JAZZ CLUB: Robertsbridge Jazz Club is meeting this month on Thursday August 11 at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 8pm until 10.30pm. This month presents multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Glasson with the Ted Beament Trio. Charlotte on saxophones, flute, and violin, Ted Beament on piano, Val Mannix on Bass and Pete Beament on the drums. FLOWER SHOW: The Flower Show and Pet Show is fast approaching, it is being held this year on Sunday September 4 at Robertsbridge Hall. More details to follow soon.

FOOTBALL : The Bridge start their friendly season with an away match at Sandhurst tomorrow, Saturday, kick off 3pm, while in the evening they are holding their first fund-raiser of the new season at Robertsbridge Club with a Poker Night starting at 7.30p.m.

STOOLBALL: The Ladies played at Pett last Tuesday with the hosts batting first on a hot evening. A 41 opening partnership between Lisa (82) and Louise (10) was broken when Louise was clean bowled by Lou Taylor (1-11) however Claire (49no) shared a 117 partnership with Lisa before Lisa was run out and Sophie (3no) completed the hosts 12 overs to finish on 168-2. Penny Clark was caught on the first ball and 5 balls later Jackie was run out with just one run on the board. Charlie Apps (10) and Lisa Fifield (25) put on 15 before Charlie was caught which bought in Jack Fifield (14) to share a 28 partnership before he was caught. Skipper Melinda Mackay (24) took the total to 86 before she was bowled and 10 runs later Lisa resistance finally ended when she was run out. Alisha Clark (17) and young borrowed Cole (17) shared a 38 run partnership before Cole was run out and then injured Lou Taylor (6) pushed the score to 143 before she was caught. Di Kitson (2no) joined Alisha for the last over and got within 16 runs of victory before Alisha was run out on the last ball. The Mixed hosted Civil Service last Thursday and an excellent 51 by Sarah Clark was the backbone of our innings. The visitors started badly losing three wickets for just 23 runs as Ann (8) was caught by Josh Lewis from the bowling of Abigail Green (2-2-28), Dave D (14) was caught by skipper Richard Apps from Graham Clark’ bowling (2-6) and the same two combined again to see Elissa (0) depart. Mandy (7) was Josh’ second victim from Sarah (2-2-22) bowling while Neil (6) was caught by Graham from Keith Apps’ (1-7) bowling with the score on 36. Ben (45no) and Mel (9) put on 23 before Mel was bowled by Josh and the next ball Maria was run out. Abigail’ next victim was Dan (3) caught by Ian Kitson while Alan (18) was bowled by Sarah with the score on 103 but Dave W (3no) and Ben saw the visitors reach 129-9 off the allotted 11 overs. Sarah (51 retired) and JJ Boast (16) put on 37 for the first wicket before JJ was run out and then Keith (12) shared a 22 partnership with Sarah before he was caught with 59 on the board. Josh (27) shared a 59 run partnership with Sarah before he was caught and just five runs short of victory Sarah retired which allowed Abigail (7no), Ian (7) and Graham (3no) to take us to 154-5 and a 25 run win. On Sunday the Mixed played at Crowhurst Tournament and it was the JJ Boast show that got us into the final against Catsfield. Our first match was against Civil Service and in 6 overs they got 108-2 with Ian Kitson (1-19) taking a wicket aided by a catch from JJ while the other wicket was a run out but then in reply JJ (89) hit the ball all over the ground while Melinda Mackay (9), Lou Taylor (4), Richard Apps (4no) and Charlie Apps (1no) got us to 112-3. Next was Crowhurst who reached 86 with JJ (2-11) the pick of the bowlers aided by a catch from Richard and himself while Keith Apps (1-12) took a caught and bowled as did Ian Kitson (1-13). In reply JJ (56), Mel (7), Lou (8) and Richard (27no) saw us win by 29 runs. Our final match was against Brightling where we reached 112-2 with JJ (84), Mel (7) Lou (9) and Charlie (0no) doing well and in reply Brightling never got going with The Bridge bowling and fielding well with wickets for Ian (1-12) caught and bowled as did JJ (1-19) and Keith (1-5) aided by a catch from Richard as Brightling reached 80-3. The final against Catsfield was one way traffic as Steve (76no) and Katie (39no) saw them reach 137 and in reply JJ (78) was the only player to reach double figures as Mel (0), Lou (2), Charlie (6), Diane Kitson (6no) and Richard (0no) went cheaply as we reached 101-4. JJ won the most runs and was tied for most wickets and catches but the team played well and in good spirit. Next week the Mixed are away to Icklesham on Tuesday and away to Catsfield on Thursday with both matches starting at 6.45pm.
