Robertsbridge Village Market: is tomorrow Saturday 5th September at Robertsbridge Hall from 10am – 1pm. You can pick up lots of goodies from local produce, home baked cakes and savouries and browse the many interesting stalls that now attend. Have a coffee and a chat, a lovely way to spend the morning.

United Reformed Church: closing service is tomorrow Saturday 5th September at 2.30pm in the Chapel. Everyone is welcome to attend.

St Mary’s Salehurst: is holding the service on Sunday 6th September at the Church at 11am. A short meeting follows this with Father Christopher Channer for all those that wish to be confirmed later in the autumn. He needs to set up times and dates for the confirmation classes.

After the service and meeting there will be a Parish Picnic, this is to be held at the Platt, which is the field opposite the entrance to Parsonage Farm. Bring a picnic and a Teddy and all the family, hopefully not an Umbrella but put one in the car just in case.

Next Saturday 12th September there is a St Mary’s Breakfast at the Salehurst Halt. The speaker is Mr Sean Martin who will speak about his work as an undertaker. Breakfast is at 8.45am and should be finished by 10.30am. More details by ringing 07984420074 every one is welcome to attend.

Robertsbridge Bonfire Society: is holding the Annual Flower and Small Pet Show on Sunday 6th September. Entries can still be accepted so pick up a schedule from the Floral Boutique or go to Facebook for information and details. Fingers crossed for nice weather, as there will be many stalls for you to browse and lots of fruit, veg, flowers, cakes and small animals to look at. Why not try your hand at baking or find that photo, do a flower arrangement or even a last minute craft. Something for all the family and raises funds for the Bonfire Society.

Age Concern: is resuming on Monday 7th September at Robertsbridge Hall between 10.30am – 2.15.

Recently members enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Merriments Garden Centre. There was plenty of choice in the Summer Menu for lunch and dessert so everyone was able to choose what appealed to them most. Some spent time walking around the garden before heading home.

If you would like to take part in the group please feel free to pop in on a Monday morning and see what is on offer.

Robertsbridge Jazz Club: is presenting the fabulous jazz saxophonist Simon Spillit, together with Mike Hext on trombone, Ted Beament on piano, Dave Green on bass and Pete Beament on drums. This is all taking place on Thursday 10th September at Robertsbridge Hall between 8pm – 10.30pm. Tickets are available from Judges Bakery at £8 or o0n the door on the night at £10. Robertsbridge Children’s Services: would like to thank everyone involved in the Robertsbridge Charity cup for their kind donation. The baby room is in the process of being extended so the money will be used to purchase some new resources.

COOPER CUP CRICKET: Sunday saw the Football and Stoolball Clubs in action in the semi-finals of the local Cooper Cup Cricket. The Stoolball Club played their semi-final against the favourites Gray Nicolls and restricted them to just 87 from their allotted 12 overs with some excellent bowling and fielding. In reply Matt, Josh, Simon, JJ and Phil got us into the final with some good batting. The other semi-final was between the Football Club and New Spice with the Football Club restricting them to 89 while it was down to Pete, Richard, Scott, Josh and Dan to overcome the score and reach the final. It was nice to see two local teams in the final and it was the Football Club who were put into bat and they reached a reasonable 101 however the Stoolball Club powered they way to victory with some sensible batting. Well done to both teams for providing the big crowd with excellent entertainment on a lovely afternoon at The Clappers. Well done to Richard, Matt, Justin, Scott, Dan, Josh, Cherry, Pete from the Football Club and to Phil, Josh, Matt, Simon, Sarah, JJ, Graham, Jack from the Stoolball Club and on a personal note I was proud to be Chairman of both teams and the way in which they played in the spirit of the game also a very big thank you to the organisers and helpers on the day from the Cricket Club. The only downside on the day was that they almost run out of beer.

FOOTBALL: The Bridge start their Macron East Sussex Football League season with the 1st team away to Sedlescombe Rangers in the Premier Division while the 2nd team are away to Sedlescombe Rangers III at Bulverhythe in Division 5 with both matches K.O. 3p.m. Tomorrow we are hosting a ‘Race Night’ at Robertsbridge Club from 7.30p.m. This is a free event and a fun night with cheap drinks and a raffle. If you’ve never seen pigs racing before this could be your chance as a variety of animals will be running so whether you want to bet or not just come and enjoy the fun in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.

STOOLBALL: Our last Ladies match of the season became victim of the great british summer as the rain poured down and our home match against Icklesham was postponed but we did play on Thursday[27th] when our last Mixed match was at home to Hooe who batted first and lost both openers without scoring to the bowling of Abigial Fifield[2-2-20] with the assistant of catches from Richard Apps and Lisa Fifield. The visitors stopped the rot with a 26 partnership between Cameron[12] and Jill[31] before Cameron was caught by Clare Baker from the bowling of Sarah Clark[1-11]. Mark[20n.o.] joined Jill to put on 60 before Jill was run out which bought in Ginette[1n.o.] to see the 8 overs out with Mark to finish on 90-4. Keith Apps[10] and Sarah[40] put on 24 before Keith was caught and then JJ Boast[1] lasted three balls before he was caught, however Josh Lewis[42n.o.] shared a 74 run partnership with Sarah before she was bowled with just one ball left as we finished on 111-3 and a 21 run win. Sunday[6th September] is our Ladies Tournament at the Cricket Ground from 10.30a.m. There will be soft drinks and food available for anybody so why not come and enjoy the oldest game in Sussex played in beautiful
