STOOLBALL: Robertsbridge Stoolball Club started their season with a Mixed match at Ashburnham on Tuesday[5th] in very windy and cold conditions. Fielding first we took a wicket in the first over when Graham Clark held onto a catch from Abigail Fifield’[1-15] bowling and in the third over Abigail took a magnificent catch from Di Kitson’[1-4] bowling. Keith Apps[1-7] held onto a catch from his own bowling as the hosts were reeling on 31-3 but we failed to take the advantage and let them score freely until the 7th over when skipper Richard Apps took a catch from Lisa Fifield’[1-8] bowling as the hosts ended their 9 overs on 74-4. The message from the skipper to the openers was to go steady in the first 5 overs which is what Keith[43] and Sarah Clark[24] did putting on 74 before Keith was run out however we lost quick wickets with Abigail[0], Penny Clark[1], Lisa[1] before Sarah saw us to victory before she was caught which left JJ Boast[3n.o.] and Di[5n.o.] to finish the innings on 91-5. The Ladies started their campaign away to Catsfield on Thursday[8th] with the hosts batting first Sarah Clark[1-12] held onto a catch from her second ball but the hosts rallied until the 5th over when Penny Clark[2-10] broke the recovery and when Jack Dean[1-17] took a catch from his own bowling the hosts were on 72-4 but Rachel[67n.o.] and Jesami[32n.o.] got Catsfield to 133-4 from their 10 overs. We were no match for the hosts accurate bowling and only Sarah[58n.o.] offered any resistance as she carried her bat through to the end with little support as Abigail[2], Melinda Mackay[5], Penny[0], Clare Baker[2], Lisa Fifield[6], Charlie Apps[4], Jack[11] and debutant Lou[6n.o.] all went cheaply as we finished on 108-7. Sunday[17th] is our Mixed Tournament at The Cricket Ground from 10.30a.m. while the Ladies are at home to Pett on Tuesday[19th] and the Mixed are away to Staplecross on Thursday[21st] with both matches starting at 6.45p.m.
