Robertsbridge

Well I can report that another very successful Sunday Luncheon was held last weekend for 46 of the older residents of Robertsbridge. This was held at Robertsbridge Club and organised by the Bonfire Society. The guests enjoyed a lovely roast with trimmings, and trifle for dessert, all cooked by Sandra, with wine or juice and tea and biscuits later in the afternoon to finish off. The entertainment was started with Pat the Hat being Quiz Master for a short Quiz and then a dance demonstration by Charleston Jive Squad, which was much enjoyed, even if it did bring on the nostalgia for a few of them.

Many thanks to everyone that helped in any way with this event it is always a most enjoyable day for all concerned.

Next week is Auction Night at Robertsbridge Club and is in aid of the Bonfire Society coffers for this years big event. If you would like to make a last minute donation please ring Pete on 880468. If you would like to come and buy lots of bargains please come to the Club for a fun night and don’t forget to bring your wallets.

Jan Poland would like to thank all her family, friends and neighbours for their kind gifts, flowers and get well cards. For taking her out and for their help with trips to the hospital. This was after Jan tripped whilst walking down George Hill and badly damaged her arm.

She would like to give her special and grateful thanks to `Nurse Wayne`; she says she would not have been able to cope without him. She would like to wish Wayne a very Happy 40th for next Thursday 29th May. Once again she thanks you all.

Bookings are being taken for Boot Sale pitches on Sunday June 15th by ringing 880468.

Stoolball: The Ladies opened their season with a home match against Hooe. The visitors batted first and an opening partnership of 57 was broken by Sarah Farthers (1-7) and a run out in the next over saw the visitors on 64-2. Di Kitson (1-6) claimed the next wicket taking a catch from her own bowling and in the last over Abigail Fifield (1-16) took a wicket aided by a catch from skipper Melinda Mackay as the visitors finished their allotted 10 overs on 105-4. Our response was good as the pre-season training came to fruition with Sarah Clark(21) and Sarah Farthers (47) put on a first wicket partnership of 73 before Sarah Clark was caught and in the next over Sarah Farthers was bowled and two balls later Melinda(5) was run out. Penny Clark(4) was run out with the score on 90 but Abigail(12) steadied the innings to pass the visitors total before she was bowled in the last over while Lisa Fifield (8n.o.) and Jack Dean (1n.o.) saw us finish an exciting match on 109-5 for a 4 run win. Next Tuesday[27th] the Ladies are away to Icklesham while on Thursday[29th] the Mixed are at home to Scorpions with both matches starting at 6.45p.m.
