Sandie Madge and Sue Paine, The Floral Boutique, 20 High Street

Well what a brilliant Bonfire evening last Saturday. Weather was kind for a change, which always makes it so much more enjoyable.

It was just a shame that 2 cars were left in Station Road again this year, which always makes it a little bit more difficult for the procession. Hopefully next year, which will be 24 years, it might be noted by all drivers that this is the route on Bonfire Night. Many thanks to those people that did find alternative parking for the evening. Also many thanks need to go out to Sam Moon and all the bonfire society members and non-member helpers that put the event on. A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes throughout the year to culminate in the village as a whole having a great night in November. If you would like to help out for next year by donating or putting on an event or by becoming a member please contact Sandie at the Floral Boutique who is the hub of village communication and she will point you in the right direction. Well done to Sandie for her window display last week that depicted Robertsbridge Bonfire with all the different strands of the society.

Thanks definitely to Robertsbridge Club for allowing the use for meetings and celebrations throughout the year. The next fund raiser will be the Christmas Draw with tickets being available shortly, especially at the Floral Boutique where on late night shopping `Christmas Capers ` I will be there to sell you a few of hopefully winning tickets. This year it is on Friday December 6th. You will also be able to get them from Bonfire members.

St Mary’s Christmas Market will be held on Saturday November 30th in the Church Room, Fair Lane between 10.30am – 2.30pm. There will be good quality Christmas presents, cakes, vegetables, furnishings and books. Father Christmas will be making a visit to the children’s corner. Why not go along and try your luck at the raffle, bottle stall, and tombola and have some fun. Then why not sample some of the delicious home made soup that will be available in the refreshment corner. This event is always very popular and one not to be missed.

Are you retired and live locally? If so you are invited to attend the Community Christmas Party that is kindly put on each year by Robertsbridge Community College. This year it is on Monday 9th December between 2.30pm – 5pm. There will be music and entertainment, a raffle and also refreshments. If you would like to go please RSVP Tracey Ash on 01580 880360 ext. 21 or you can email her on [email protected] by Tuesday 3rd December.

In case you have already heard, Helping Hands a Community Friends Project is now up and running for those residents who are in particular need of some help. There is a team of volunteers willing to assist with a variety of tasks, such as shopping, occasional cooking, changing a light bulb, or hanging a picture. Gardening can include a one-off tidy up for those that are physically unable to manage it alone. Transport can be offered on the one off occasional lift e.g. appointments. Volunteers do not replace local traders or professional services but are there for the benefit of all in the community, young or old, who might need at some time a helping hand. To request help please call 07726 592739.

Ladies darts: We went out of the Knockout Cup in a dramatic and tense game at The White Hart(Wadhurst) II last Monday. With a 6-5 advantage from the 1st leg we needed to win 6 legs to progress and it started well with a 3-2 lead after single wins for Frankie Taylor, Alice Hodges and Steph Goldsmith but the hosts drew level after the doubles with Frankie/Jackie Danaher our only victors. We started the trebles games needing two wins for victory but we lost the first trebles, however victory for Alice/Jackie/Frankie in the second game took us into a final game and with a two hundred lead we looked favourites to win but we failed to find our double which took the match into a sudden death last leg in which we performed terrible and lost the match 7-5 losing 12-11 on aggregate. On Monday[25th] we are away toe The Seven Stars 8p.m.

Friday darts: The Millers Arms were our opponents last Friday in which we won 4-3 in the singles darts with victories for Keith Stone, Dave Goodsell, Michael Stone and Richard Hawthorne while Dan Smith/Richard won the Mens Pairs 1-0. There were 100+ scores for Richard[140,102,100x5], Dan[140,112], Keith[110 checkout] and Michael[100]. We won pushpenny 3-2 with wins for Alan Apps, David Fortsch and Dave Goodsell with Dave scoring a ‘goldwatch’. Tonight we are at home to Mountfield Club ‘A’ 8p.m.
