Stoolball The Ladies played their final match of the season at home to Catsfield last Tuesday[20th]. We lost Sarah Clark(1) in the first over but a second wicket partnership of 42 between JJ Boast(74) and Darryl Collins(17) steadied the innings but then Mel Mackay(13) and Sophie Turner(2) went quickly we were on 68-4. Kayley Sherwood(13n.o.) joined JJ to put on 76 before JJ was run out then Izzy La Pla(4n.o.) saw the innings out with Kayley to finish the 10 overs on 156-5. An opening partnership of 53 between Jo(63) and young Jonty(10) gave the visitors a solid start and when Jonty was bowled by Darryl(1-15) Shelley(16) joined Jo to add another 69 before she was run out. Jo was finally out when Sophie took a good catch from Diane Kitson’(1-7) bowling and when Sarah(1-20) took the final wicket the visitors ended on 120-4 to give us a 36 run victory. The Mixed team hosted an Ashburnham side which included some strong players from other clubs on Thursday[22nd]. The visitors batted first and an opening partnership of 73 between Chiffer(Brightling) and Sally gave them a good start before Sally was caught by Richard Apps from Ian Kitson’ bowling for 15 and with his last ball he had Chiffer caught by Sophie to finish with an impressive 2-11. Richard took another catch from Kayley’ bowling as she ended with 1-14 while the higlight of our fielding was when JJ threw the ball in from 40 yards and hit the wicket on the bounce to run out Laura but Sam hit an unbeaten 54 to take the visitors to 159-5 from their 11 overs. In reply our opening five batters committed suicide as we hovered on 14-5 before JJ Boast(15) and Kayley(15) stopped the slide but we were never going to be able to compete against such a strong side and we eventually finished on 59 all out.
