Friday 30th August is Robertsbridge Bonfire Society Badge Night at Robertsbridge Club. This is the last chance to pay subs or become a member for this season. No membership means no marching at any of the season’s events with Robertsbridge Society.

Please help support your Bonfire Night. Next Saturday 31st August there is to be a fundraising morning tea and cakes event at Robertsbridge Club between 10am – 11.30am. This is in aid of the Cardiomyopathy Association. If you don’t know what this is you get information on www.cardiomyopathy.org or call Free phone 0800 0181 024.

CMA is the only charity in the UK that provides vital support to people and their families affected by the heart muscle disease, cardiomyopathy. This inherited heart disease affects all age groups, from babies upwards. It is the number one medical cause of sudden death in young people. One in 500 people are affected but many do not know about it. Please support this event if you can as it not only will raise awareness but also help the association with its work and in turn save lives.

Sunday 8th August is Annual Family Flower Show, Fete and small animal show Day at Robertsbridge Hall. Schedules and entry forms available from Sandie at the Floral Boutique. This year there will be a BBQ and the fab Pimms Bar, lots of classes for all ages, and a show for your small pets. Lots for everyone. Again this will support the Bonfire Society, but also the Community Association. Two of our well loved groups, so please support if you live in the village and would like to help one or the other or both of these groups.

Stoolball: Last Tuesday [13th] the mixed played hosts to local rivals Brightling in overcast conditions which restricted the overs to 10 per innings. Brightling batted first and an opening partnership of 66 between Chiffer (70) and Pippa (31) was broken when skipper Richard Apps caught Pippa from the bowling of Lisa Fifield(1-19) but when Sophie (23n.o.) joined Chiffer they put on 65 before Richard again took a catch from Ben Moss’ bowling and with the last ball Ben(2-9) took the final wicket aided by a catch from Josh Lewis as the visitors ended on 137-3. We started badly losing two wickets in the first over but an excellent third wicket partnership of 123 between Keith Apps (72n.o.) and Melinda Mackay(39) took us to within 8 runs of victory but there was still time for the visitors to claim another wicket before Keith and Abigail Fifield (5n.o.) saw us home at 147-4. The ladies hosted Brightling last Thursday[15th] and an opening partnership of 124 between Carolyn(80n.o.) and Sarah(40) gave them a good start and when Sarah was run out and Claire Hatter(1-20) took a wicket we slowed the run rate down but our poor fielding let us down as the visitors ended their 10 overs on 150-2. Our innings needed a partnership to challenge the visitors score but when Claire(14), JJ Boast(10) and Melinda Mackay(12) all went in the first six overs we were on 53-5 before Bev Green(24) and Abigail Fifield (22n.o.) saw out the final 4 overs to take us to a respectable 107-5. The final match of the season takes place on Thursday[29th] when the mixed play at Hooe starting at 6.30p.m. and then on Sunday 1st September we have our Ladies Tournament at the Cricket Ground starting at 10.30a.m.
