Stoolball The weather caused the cancellation of our mixed match against Hooe last Tuesday. On Thursday the mixed team played at Crowhurst with the hosts batting first and reaching 115-7 from their 11 overs. Sophie Turner(1-9) claimed the first wicket aided by a catch from Phil Green with a run out accounting for the second and when Phil claimed his second catch from the bowling of Ian Kitson(1-7) the hosts were on 62-3. Skipper Richard Apps took a catch from Kayley Sherwood’(1-14) bowling and Richard took another catch in the next over from Josh Lewis’(1-6) bowling. Phil got his third catch from his own bowling and in the final over Penny Clark(1-17) bowled to danger man Gwylym only to see his strike fly towards Keith Apps who somehow leaped high into the air to claw the ball before it went over the boundary for the catch of the season. An opening partnership of 22 gave us a solid start before Sophie Turner(3) was bowled and then Melinda Mackay(11), Kayley(2) and Josh(11) went with the score at 80-4. Opener Ian(43) was joined Penny(21 not out) who stopped the rot and when Phil(32) joined Penny they took our total past the hosts score as we ended on 137-7 for a 22 run victory. Tuesday[13th] the mixed are at home to Brightling while on Thursday[15th] the ladies are at home to Brightling with both matches starting at 6.45p.m.
