The main event on the Robertsbridge Calendar is eventually here, Robertsbridge Bonfire Night. This evening 16TH November at Robertsbridge Club is the Marshals Briefing meeting starting at 8pm. If you are over 18 and would like to help out with the marshalling tomorrow evening then please can you attend this meeting as it will give you the information needed to do the job. Tomorrow evening 17th, from 6pm the collection buckets can be picked up from the Club door if you would like to help out with the street collection. This money goes back into the village by paying for a Panto and for the Older Persons Lunch that is put on each May.

Please be generous as every penny counts.

Listen out tomorrow morning at 7am for the very loud bang that signifies that the Society are on the field and ready to start preparations for the big event.

There will be the Guy Competition, with any Guys needing to be at the Recreation Ground by 1.30 for the judging to take place at 2pm.

There will be a road closure in place from 6pm to 10pm covering Station Road, George Hill, High Street and Northbridge Street. Please be aware and don’t leave your car in this area for the few hours.

The Torch Lit procession will start at the Station at 7.15 arriving at the Recreation Ground at 8.15pm with the Grand Bonfire and Firework Display from 8.30pm. Times are subject to change.

The British Red Cross provide First Aid for the evening and are positioned at the Football Pavilion at the Recreation Ground or they have First Aiders walking with the procession.

Please think of safety during this evening and do not pick up any discarded torches, as the fire carts at the back of the procession will do this. Do not throw fireworks, as it is an arrest able offence and please do not go into any area that has been cordoned off. Other than all this please stay safe and have a great fun night.

Any Bonfire members that still have some energy and need something to do on Monday 19th in the evening please head towards the Club as the collection count takes place and many hands make light work.

After all the excitement of Saturday there will be the usual Tea Dance Party at Robertsbridge Club starting to raise funds for next years event. This is on Wednesday 21st November at 2pm – 4pm; cost is £3.50 for music and dancing, tea and cake, a raffle and lots of chat.

Thursday 22nd is the next Progressive Whist evening at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 7pm. Why not go along and join in for a fun evening.

On Friday 23rd is the film showing `The Exotic Marigold Hotel` at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 7.30pm.

Saturday 24th November is the very popular St Mary’s Church Salehurst Christmas Market being held at the Church Room in Fair Lane. This is open from 10.30am – 2.30pm. and is one of the Churches biggest fund raisers with many different stalls to include, new or nearly new items, bottle stall, raffle, children’s corner with Father Christmas visiting and much much more. Please go along and show your support.

On Friday November 30th the 1st Robertsbridge Scout Group will be holding their Christmas Prize Bingo at 7.30pm at Robertsbridge Hall. This is a family fun night so please go along and support your local Scouts.

Talking of the Scouts I have been asked to make villagers aware of the following from the Scout group. For sometime now the group has been having problems with dog fouling on the land in front of their head quarters. The PCSO has been very supportive and sent letters to residents in the area but to no avail as the fouling still goes on. Because this has been so persistent this summer it has prevented the Scout Groups from using the grass area for any out door activities. Please if you live near by and see anything can you report it back to the Scout Group, as it needs to be stopped. Many thanks in advance of your help in this matter.

I have just attended a funeral of a very good friend Fiona Hawthorn. Fiona was a local girl and has just lost her fight against a nearly five-year battle with Cancer. She was an inspiration to many with the way she stoically carried on her routine even though she was so poorly at times. She had no intention of leaving her beloved family so early, but at the age of 47 she could fight no more. There were many people in the church to send her on her way to what ever is waiting for her now. She was a lover of life and loved her family, her cats, her guinea pigs, her friends and she loved the older people that she worked with. Only 4 days before she died she said to me ` I know I shall never go back to work now `. She was so determined and did not want to give in but she knew when the time was right. There were no flowers at her funeral other than the family tribute because it was preferred to send donations to Macmillan Nurses. If you would like to donate in Fiona’s memory please send a cheque made payable to Macmillan Nurses to Waterhouse and Sons High Street Burwash, TN19 7ET.

Football dates for your diary: Saturday 8th December 2012 we are holding a ‘Poker Night’ from 8p.m. at Robertsbridge Club.

Ladies Darts: We did not have a game last week. On Monday[19th] it is the 2nd leg of the Knockout Cup and we had a bye so we will be practicing at the Club 8.p.m.

Darts: We played at Mountfield Club ‘A’ and won darts 5-2 with victories for Guy Ballard, Alec Martin, Tom Ripley, Cherry Taylor and Richard Hawthorne with 100 + scores for Alice Hodges[111], Richard[100x6], Tom[100x2] and Cherry[100] while Richard produced the lowest score with three darts on the night of just 3. We won pushpenny 3-2 with wins for Cherry Taylor, Ted Goldfinch and Alec Martin. There was a ‘goldwatch’ apiece for Dave Goodsell and Alec. Tonight we are at home to Crowhurst Park (8p.m.).
