Robertsbridge Community College’s Archie comes top in cookery competition

Archie Blackmore competed against students from other schools and colleges across 1066 Country at the Rotary of Senlac Chef of the Year contest.

John Crouch, spokesman for Robertsbridge Community College, said: “It’s the second consecutive year a student from Robertsbridge Community College has triumphed at the competition.

“This year, the event was staged at Sussex Coast College, with its impressive suite of state-of-the-art facilities. Unfortunately, fewer schools and colleges from the area chose to enter this year and the Robertsbridge team of year-nine students found themselves up against a college team of post-16 students.

“Undaunted and secure in the knowledge that they would be eligible for another go next year, all nerves were cast aside and the team were able to concentrate solely on their cooking.

“It obviously paid off as when the results were announced by head judge and restaurant owner, Paul Webbe, Archie Blackmore emerged victorious. In particular, the combination of colours on the plate enhanced the presentation of the dish.”

Archie’s main meal was pork medallions with homemade apple sauce, accompanied by steamed tender-stem broccoli and orange glazed carrots.

This was followed by a sticky-centred chocolate brownie with fresh raspberries and pouring cream.

Archie will now go on to replicate his main course for the Rotary of Senlac Christmas event with the runner-up providing the dessert course. Archie will then represent Senlac in the next round of the national competition.

Mr Crouch said: “All at the college will be wishing him well and no doubt more than a few of the staff will be visiting the food tech room at college when Archie is cooking in the hope of a tasty treat or two.”
