BEACHY HEAD: An American who stayed with me recently was horrified to see the amount of crosses at Beachy Head, put there in memory of people who just could not take any more of this life. He also mentioned the amount of people sitting on the edge of the cliffs or standing taking photos. As everyone knows who lives in the vicinity, the cliffs are liable to give way at any moment and who has to rescue these people who take chances, the Lifeboat crews and other volunteers who give their services free and put their own lives at risk. Do people not realise how selfish they are being?

WILDLIFE: Butterflies are taking advantage of all the buddleias that are out at the moment adding wonderful colour to the garden. Spiders are in abundance outside and inside. I saw a whopper run across the dining room floor the other night. I have to tell my B&B’s that if they leave their bedroom windows open, wildlife will come in as it’s that time of the year. Having worked on the garden for five hours one day, I decided to sit and relax and watch the sun setting, only to be bombarded by flying ants and various other flying insects.

FRUIT: Apples are falling thick and fast, especially if we have a breeze, so I’m busy sorting the cookers and eaters and keeping the damaged ones for my friend’s livestock. I put six bags outside on the verge one day and they went in a very short time and are no doubt apple pies etc in people’s freezers by now. I hate waste and I’m only too pleased if people want to come and pick their own, but that does not seem to happen.

FESTIVAL: The Bimble Bandada Festival a few weeks ago seemed to go without a hitch. I personally have not heard any complaints. There were plenty of colourful people wandering our roads and villages, obviously going to it.

DRUMMING: There has been distant drumming going on into the night in the area recently, but I don’t know where it is based.

GEESE: A large flight of Canada Geese flew over here on August 16, making such a racket with their honking. I love to see them flying in their perfect V shape.

PARKING: It was good to sit in the garden and watch the various planes flying over to the Eastbourne Air Show without having the hassle of driving there and trying to park. I know many people who will not go to Eastbourne or Brighton now, because it’s too expensive and complicated to park using the new parking meter system where you need to use a phone. When will people learn that simplicity is by far the best process in many walks of life?

CARERS: I am at present battling with the process of Power of Attorney papers for my mother and Mike. To me it is an expensive nightmare and one which I could do without at the moment. If it wasn’t for the help from my god-daughter I don’t know how I would manage. I do advise readers not to leave these matters as it becomes more of a problem if you do. People seem to stick their heads in the sand, ostrich like, and end up like me, getting my feathers well and truly ruffled. I have so much sympathy for people of an older age who are carers, but actually are falling into the category of being in need of care themselves. The Government does not seem to realise the gravity of the situation arising as we all live longer and need more care.
