Roger Federer inspires as Christ’s Hospital celebrates A-level success

Four students - Miles Edwards, Katy Fishbacher, Peggy Hughes and Tiffany Chan - achieved the perfect set of four A* grades. Imogen Muir was also among the some of the highest achievers with three A* and one A.

Katy, who is set to study medicine at the University of Cambridge, explained how tennis superstar Roger Federer has been her main inspiration.

She said: “He has inspired me to work hard irrespective of how well I’m doing, to be gracious in defeat and humble in victory.

“Last November Federer received the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship award, as voted for by other players; I hope that in the future I too will have an attitude that gains respect from others in my field.”

Dara Adedayo, Efosa Ayanru, Rydan Giraudy, Chania Livesey-Clare and Zachary Moxon all achieved two A* and one A.

Zachary, who also received a choral scholarship to study music at the University of Cambridge, said: “I don’t think any other school could have prepared me better for university.”

The school maintained its high achievement standards, with 72 per cent of students achieving A* to B grades.

John Franklin, headmaster at Christ’s Hospital, said: “We have a strong record of attainment at Christ’s Hospital and this is another excellent year for our leavers.

“We are proud that the hard work of the pupils and staff has paid off so handsomely. Our school leavers take with them the confidence and the skills that they will need to achieve success at university and beyond.”

The art department also achieved outstanding results again this year, with two students receiving D1 grades - the equivalent of an A** grade.

Paul Deller, head of art at Christ’s Hospital, said: “To achieve a distinction 1 is an outstanding achievement.

“To receive two D1 grades in one year is remarkable. Yelena Aleksic and Olivia Williamson both worked incredibly hard and showed huge dexterity in a wide range of mediums.”
