Rother kicks off town centre consultation

THE engagement process on the regeneration of Bexhill's Town Centre is being started by Rother District Council.

The authority wants as many Rother residents as possible to fill out an initial mini-survey and register of interest. Additional comments are also welcome.

A steering group has been set up to consider the options for regenerating the town centre to increase its prosperity. It follows on from the council and partners working to deliver multi-million pound regeneration schemes at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill Museum and the Elva Business Centre in Sidley.

The group is seeking the opinions of local residents and businesses, from all backgrounds, on what should be done in the town.

The council is keen to stress this is an initial survey and register, with many more engagement activities due over the coming months including discussions, meetings and focus groups with different parties, including businesses and a range of age groups.

Not being on the register won’t prevent residents from being involved in this future consultation work, but signing up makes it easier for the council to contact them on specific matters of interest.

The survey asks what people like about Bexhill Town Centre and what they want to see changed.

Steering group chairman Cllr Brian Kentfield said: “We pledged to consult with residents and this is just the start of that process.

“It is important that people realise this is likely to be a long process and nothing has been decided yet. We require the thoughts of residents and businesses to help us shape the vision for Bexhill town centre – it is crucial they have their say.”

Hard copies have also been included within Rother’s resident’s magazine, which will be delivered to households over the next few weeks.
