Rother ward boundary changes to come under spotlight again

An extraordinary meeting is to be held on November 16 where all Rother district councillors will view the latest proposals.

For Rother’s rural wards the creation of 14 wards comprising six, two-member wards and eight single member wards will be discussed.

Amendments to the option include Flimwell and Hurst Green to be merged with Ticehurst to create a double-member ward, which would be renamed Hurst Green and Ticehurst.

Another amendment is Battle Central and Battle North being merged to form a double-member ward to include Whatlington from Sedlescombe and Westfield. This would be renamed Battle, Netherfield and Whatlington.

Battle South ward wouuld be renamed Battle and Telham and Three Oaks would be moved from Southern Rother into Sedlescombe and Westfield.

For Bexhill, proposals involve keeping the existing nine two-member wards with minor adjustments.

This will be discussed at a later date by the cabinet and eventually submitted to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE).

Rother District Council is taking part in a county-wide electoral review run by the LGBCE.

A lengthy consultation period will be held and proposed ward changes would come into effect in 2019.
