Avenue de Chartres car park, which is deemed to be underused, will have its own season ticket at £43 per month, compared to other council car parks at £49.

The X Roving Season Ticket, which currently includes Avenue de Chartres, will be replaced with a roving season ticket for Cattle Market, Northgate and Basin Road.

Carol Thomas said she’d bought a roving ticket for the last 15 to 20 years and not complained about the rise in prices, but the change

could cost her more because the multi-storey was often too busy.

She said: “I can’t afford to pay for a season ticket and then go to another car park and pay. Unfortunately you have to, I’ve been held up against a wall really.

“It doesn’t make it easier for anybody, I think people would rather pay the higher price and then have the option of another car park.”

A spokesperson for West Sussex County Counci said: “We have replaced the current x roving season ticket with two new season tickets: one for Avenue de Chartres which is at a significantly reduced price of £43 per month when purchased online or £473 per year as one month is given free when 12 months are purchased in advance.

“This offers significant savings to the customer and has been introduced in response to car parks monitoring to encourage usage.

“There is a separate roving season ticket which covers Cattle Market, Northgate and Basin Road and costs £49 per month, or £539 when purchased in advance for a year where one month is provided free.”
