Row over rejection of plans for new Goring play facilities

A ROW has erupted over the decision to reject plans for new play facilities on Goring Greensward.

The controversial scheme was turned down by Worthing Borough Council's cabinet at the beginning of the month.

But Action Childsplay, which wanted the new playground, says Goring Residents' Association's petition against the scheme should be declared invalid.

The 2,000-plus signatures obtained were based on inaccurate information, the group says. It claims the association obtained the signatures by telling people the council planned to install a volleyball court and a fitness trail when in fact these had been dropped from the plans.

Action Childsplay says it had been aware since the early autumn that the council only intended to build a children's playground for two-to-13-year-olds with inclusive disabled facilities.

But the association's vice-chairman, Kathryn Walker, hit back at the claims saying members only became aware that the council had changed its plans to just the playground on December 15, three days after the end of the consultation period.
