Rustington and Littlehampton men in charity challenge

The annual fun day at the White Hart pub, in Surrey Street, Littlehampton, saw three men from Rustington and Littlehampton brave the dank depths of its historic well in an effort to raise cash for the RNLI and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ryan Mclaughlin, 25, Ian and RNLI volunteers Fodden, 36, and Daniel Moodie, 23, all took it in turns to spend time down the former coaching inn’s well.

Dozens of visitors to the pub during the day donated cash to throw buckets of cold water over the trio.

Ryan, who was in the well for almost six hours, said: “It was absolutely freezing in there.”

And it looks like their efforts weren’t in vain. On Friday, the pub donated two cheques to the charities.

Landlady Jaki Cornford said the fun day was packed with things to do, including a raffle, barbecue, disco/karaoke .

She added there were plenty of stalls for other local charities, like home-grown Littlehampton good cause, Jamie’s Wish.

“It was a fantastic day and we’re hoping to make it a big event in the town,” she said.

Malcolm Somner, fund-raising chairman for the area collected the cash, alongside Janet Cullen, who represents the Adur branch of Macmillan.

Both thanked the staff at the pub as well as all those who had helped to raise the cash for the charities at the event.
