Scouts fund raiser: RYE Mayor John Breeds raised £350 for Rye Scouts new building project when he held a coffee morning at Rye Town Hall last week.

Steam giants

THERE will be another chance to see giant steam engines in action at Brede Waterworks, in the Brede Valley, next weekend.

Brede Steam Engine Society holds free open days on Saturday May 5 and bank holiday Monday on May 7, from 10am - 4pm.

There is plenty of free parking and refreshments will be available.

Brede Waterworks is signposted from the A28 at the top of Brede Hill.

40’s show

NORTHIAM Showtimers present their variety show Keep Calm and Carry On at the village hall tonight (Friday) and Saturday.

Evening performances are at 7.30pm on both days plus a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Audiences are encouraged to dress up ‘40’s style. Tickets for reserved seating are £7 and can be booked by phoning 01424 882076. Some tickets may be available on the door but cannot be guaranteed.

Refreshments and a bar will be available at all performances.

Fun quiz

A FUN Quiz Night takes place at Winchelsea New Hall on Saturday May 5 in aid of Rye Memorial Hospital.

Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start and it costs £8.50 per person for teams of up to six and includes supper.

There will be a raffle and prizes.

Dance club

A NEW Saturday morning dance club is starting at the Tilling Green Community Centre in Rye on Saturday May 12.

It is called Moovers and Groovers and run by Michelle Paine, who is a qualified dance teacher with over 20 years experience of teaching dance to children.

It will be held between 9.15am - 11.15am for all children aged 5 and above. 9.15am for KS1 ages 5-7 yrs 10.15 for KS2 ages 8-12 yrs.

Michelle says it is a fun and friendly class suitable for all, regardless of whether they have danced before or not. It’s an active class where members will learn funky routines to all their favourite tunes.

Churchyard lunch

CHURCHES Together in Rye is planning a churchyard lunch, with barbecue, for Tuesday June 5, as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

It will follow a civic service at St. Mary’s. These events are being planned with the co-operation of the Town Council and Rye College.

They are also exploring the possibility of planting a Jubilee Oak at an appropriate place in town.
