Rye could still take on services from Rother

THERE is a ‘deal to be done’ with Rye Town Council taking over from Rother Council to run public conveniences says Rye District councillor Lord Ampthill.

Rother’s maintenance of Rye’s toilets have come under fire in the past from visitors to the town and locals alike.

One visitor described it as a ‘Third World service’.

Lord Ampthill said, at a recent Town Council meeting, There has been some successes in devolving service deliver to some town and parish councils but we have only scratched the surface of the opportunity.

“Rye Town Council can expect a polite reminder as to its views on taking over some public conveniences.”
