Rye Council clear the way

RYE Town Council took a proactive approach to help the town beat the big freeze last weekend.

Councillors took to the streets armed with salt and snow shovels to clear footpaths.

Rye Town Clerk Richard Farhall said: “The Town Council’s strategy was even more effective than last winter because most of the priority streets and roads were salted a few hours before the first wave of snow arrived late Friday morning.

“Councillors and volunteers worked through the weekend, either clearing snow or spreading salt. The team received numerous appreciative comments from members of the public and the general opinion was that it has never been easier to negotiate the town during similar adverse conditions.

“Supplies of salt started to run down on the Sunday and this contributed to parts of Tilling Green Estate still being slippery on the Monday. It is likely that in future greater supplies will be made available for use on the Estate.

“The Council would like to thank all those who did their bit to keep Rye open and safe.”
