Rye Partnership to lead onrural employment project

The new employability project funded through the Department of Work and Pensions Jobcentre Plus Flexible Support Gran and will help raise the profile of Rye Harbour as an employment zone.

“Rye Harbour is an important growth area for economic development in Rye and Eastern Rother and the Rye Partnership has worked hard to raise the profile of the area and the benefits its development will bring to the local economy.

“We have gained the support of many partners who share our vision and working with the project co-ordinator, Flora Williams, I am sure they will make the project a huge success.”

Based primarily in the Rye Harbour, Camber, Winchelsea Beach, Winchelsea and Icklesham areas, Rye Partnership has joined forces with several organisations including, Jobcentre Plus, Sussex Coast College Hastings (SCCH), BHT Finding Futures, Locate East Sussex, The Lets Do Business Group and the Rye and District Chamber of Commerce to improve the prospects of unemployed people.

The project is also working with Rastrum Ltd, the owners of Rye Wharf and Atlas Business Park Ltd, to access local employers in the Rye Harbour Road industrial area.

These two companies are controlled by Rod Chapman and are the largest landowners in the Rye Harbour area.

They own business units ranging from small start-up units through to large scale industrial buildings that house businesses which between them currently employ approximately 500 people.

The project will bring much needed local work club services and employment training to the rural areas and promote local recruitment.

There are two events planned : A Business Breakfast will be held at unit G9 Atlas Business Park, Rye Harbour on Thursday November 28 at 8.30am. Coffee and breakfast followed by short presentations at 9am. with a drop in session open until 11am.

A Work and Training Roadshow will be at Rye Harbour Village hall on the same day from 1-3pm

This will be a drop-in session for local people interested in training opportunities, volunteering, further education and generally improving their employment prospects.
