Rye school isgoing yellowfor charity

The event is being organised by 14 year old Lauren Gander, a pupil at the school who suffers from the condition herself.

Lauren was one of the Olympic Torch bearers at Rye last year and since then has raised an incredible half a million pounds for charity.

October sees the launch of the second Spina Bifida Awareness week.

It is run nationally by the charity Shine, a registered charity, which was formed in 1966, initially to help families and individuals affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Today, Shine is a community of 75,000 individuals, families, friends, and professionals, sharing achievements, challenges and information on living with hydrocephalus, or spina bifida, and related issues.

So far, the charity has received event notifications for 100 individuals, schools, groups and workplaces - four times more than last year.

In addition to donning yellow outfits for the day, many of Shine’s supporters are arranging challenges, raffles and cake sales to run alongside their ‘Wear Yellow and Shine’ events.

The whole of Rye Studio School is wearing something yellow however small and a donation if they wish to do so but it is more of a fun day to turn the school yellow for one day in support of Shine.

Lauren will be wearing charity to shirt and glasses for the day.

Her just giving page has already raised £55 for the event.
