Sarah to dance for billions in Olympic show

Sarah Jones, 32, has been busy rehearsing this week in preparation for what promises to be a spectacular show.

Details about the performance are being kept tightly under wraps, but Sarah found out in January that she had been selected to dance in the ceremony, following two auditions back in November.

Sarah, who works on the checkout at Morrisons in Hastings, said: “I can’t say what I am doing in the ceremony, but I am dancing.

“It’s the most amazing experience of my life.”

She added: “I feel very proud to be in the Opening Ceremony.

“It means so much to me.

“I am very excited.”

An experienced performer, Sarah took a BTEC in Performing Arts at the Eastbourne College of Art and Technology, now Sussex Downs College, and previously attended Hastings Stage Studio performing arts school.

And she is also a familiar face to many in Battle as she has appeared on stage as a member of the Battle Light Opera Group.

Sarah says her family can’t wait to see her take centre stage in the ceremony.

She said: “They are very proud.

“My dad and my fiancé came to the dress rehearsal.”

The Opening Ceremony is a celebration showcasing the best of the Host Nation. It also features a parade of all competing nations and the entrance of the Olympic Flame, which ignites the Cauldron and signals the start of the Games.

Directed by Danny Boyle, ‘Isles of Wonder’ is the name of the Olympic Opening Ceremony and the worldwide broadcast will commence at 9pm GMT today (Friday).

The ceremony will kick off with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, produced by the Whitechapel Foundry, and the stadium will be transformed into the British countryside for opening scene ‘Green and Pleasant’, which includes real farmyard animals.

The ceremony will also include a special sequence celebrating the best of British, featuring volunteer performers from the NHS.

A total cast of 15,000 will take part in the London 2012 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, which will be watched by an estimated audience of four billion.
