School is backon track afterOfsted report

The school was placed on special measures following an inspection in 2013.

Now it has received a glowing report and has gained an ‘outstanding’ rating for behaviour and safety.

The school was judged as good for quality of teaching, achievement of pupils and early years provision.

Ofsted highlighted the impact of leadership and management arrangements as a key reason for rapid improvement and praised the work of staff to significantly improve the quality of teaching and pupils’ achievement.

Cllr Nick Bennett, county council lead member for learning and school effectiveness said: “It is a great achievement that the school has been taken out of special measures so quickly.

“This marks a wonderful start to 2015 and we’re delighted that all the hard work being put into raising standards has been recognised.

“The inspection report clearly acknowledge the schools has gone through an exceptionally challenging time.

“The fact that inspectors recognised the school as good is a testament to the resilience, determination and commitment of the leadership, staff and wider dedicated team of professionals working with the school.”

The 2013 report stated: “Pupils in Years 1, 2 and 3 underachieve in reading, writing, and mathematics becauseteaching in these year groups is inadequate.”

The latest report, in December 2014, states: “Staff have worked effectively together to overcome previous weaknesses. As a result, thequality of teaching and pupils’ achievement has improved significantly since the last inspection.”

School head Mr Montebello, said: “It is wonderful news we have all been waiting for.

“Inspectors said pupils were exceptionally polite and well behaved.”
