School link-up helps showcase opportunities

The programme, which began in September, allows the Sports Leaders to demonstrate to the primary school students the fantastic sporting opportunities at the school, and what it is like to be a Sports Leader. The weekly sessions, run by the Sports Leaders, have so far focused on outdoor education, with activities including orienteering, map reading and team building exercises. In the spring and summer terms, the initiative is offering Barnham Primary School students the opportunity to try out the team sports available at Six Villages, including football, netball and rugby. Sessions will also focus on the wider topic of fitness, and the importance of staying fit and healthy through exercise.Anthony Ender, PE Teacher at Ormiston Six Villages Academy, said: 'The programme provides a brilliant opportunity for our students to show pupils at one of our local primaries what being a Sports Leader here at Six Villages is like. Our students are exemplary role models for these younger pupils, sharing their practical skills and leadership aspirations to motivate and inspire others as they learn about the benefits of sport and exercise.'The students also commented on the new initiative.Jack said: 'I learnt how you can be a better team and supportive and this will help me in PE and outside of school.'Zach added: 'I've learnt to never give up if you make a mistake.' Niamh said: 'My favourite sport was cone collecting because it improved my stamina and helped me with teamwork.'Don't miss out on all the latest breaking news where you live. Here are four ways you can be sure you'll be amongst the first to know what's going on.1) Make our website your homepage 2) Like our Facebook page 3) Follow us on Twitter4) Register with us by clicking on '˜sign in' (top right corner).
