Schoolboy has artwork displayed at Horsham Museum

Nicholas McAthur, 14, has had his drawings on display in the Horsham Museum and Art Gallery - picture submitted

Approached by Nicholas McArthur, the museum was delighted to be able to offer him space to display his drawings in the Hurst Room.

Forest School pupil Nicholas has had an interest in art since the age of four. He said: “I started off with crayons and colouring books, moving on to painting by numbers when I was old enough to count. I was encouraged by my uncle Pat, he brought me a new colouring book every Thursday when he visited and always ensured I had plenty of marker pens.

“By six and a half I was moving on to drawing pictures from books and the internet.

“I discovered at an early stage that painting was challenging and that drawing was a lot easier for me.”

Now he is studying GCSE art. He added: “I specialise in drawing now, knowing that I can produce finer detailed work with a pencil compared to using a paintbrush. Being quite young, I feel I have plenty of time left to experiment with paints.

“This past year of drawing pictures has gradually changed to cover a wider variety of subject matter.

“I hope to go to college and pursue a career using the skills I have been given.”
