Scouts among those who rolled up their sleeves and took to the beach in a huge clean up effort

Around 80 youngsters from the South Bersted Cubs and Felpham Cubs and Scouts, plus volunteers from the Friends of West Park and Arun District Council officers took part in the litter pick along the town’s promenade.

South Bersted Cubs and the Friends of West Park started their efforts in West Park while Felpham Cubs and Scouts tackled the rubbish in Longbrook Park.

They all rolled up their sleeves and helped clean up the town’s Seaside Award winning beach from either end. They then joined forces at the beacon in the middle of the promenade.

Arun District Council’s cabinet member for environmental services Paul Dendle said: “It’s fantastic the children and the Friends of West Park are helping the council ensure that Bognor Regis’ award winning beach remains clean and tidy for visitors.

“Litter on the beach is not only unsightly it can be dangerous to animals and seabirds so it is great to see that members of the local community are actively trying to prevent this.”

Wendy Morris, leader of South Bersted Cubs, said: “This is the second year that groups from Bognor District Scouts have taken part in the beach clean as part of Scout Community Week.

“The 1st Felpham Sea Scouts and 1st South Bersted Air Scouts relished the opportunity to work together for this event and, with beautiful weather, great fun was had by all.

“We enjoyed working with the Friends of West Park and Arun District Council, who provided the litter picking sticks and equipment, and are already looking forward to repeating the event next year.”
