Seafront hotel protest rally planned

A PROTEST rally is planned by Save Our Seafront campaigner Jackie Bialeska to convince councillors that Bexhill doesn't want an hotel on the Metropole site.

The rally is being timed for 2pm on Thursday, January 20 with the aim of it being right beneath the noses of members of Rother planning committee, meeting in the Town Hall.

Jackie says: "There are only three weeks left to the end of the consultation period and after that no protests or letters will be accepted or considered.

"I am planning a protest rally in Town Hall Square. We are also trying to persuade as many people as possible to write to the regeneration division. Believe it or not, only 100 letters have been received so far.

"In February, a seminar is to be held by Cllr Gubby for the councillors. At this seminar, protests, letters and petitions will be finally evaluated. That is why we must push forward quickly."

She fears that councillors will be persuaded to accept the seafront development.

In a message to the public, she says: "Time is desperately short. The end of consultation is January 31. No more protests, letters or petitions will make any difference after that.

"The future of Bexhill's seafront is in your hands. Every person attending is vital, young and old welcome. It will be held whatever the weather and will last 10 minutes."
