RECENT torrential rain and gales have been causing a problem for seabirds and wildlife across the area.

As reported in the Herald last week, the bodies of numerous birds have been washed up on Worthing’s beach, along with other wildlife, which had fallen victim to the weather.

But one eagle-eyed reader spotted an encouraging sight on Friday – a seal swimming in the waters close to the pier.

Rob Collins was armed with his camera, and sent in this picture of the seal.

He said: “It was only 20 yards away from the landing stage. I last saw a seal off the pier about six months ago – I’m out everyday with my camera – but it wasn’t as close in as this one.”
