SEARCH FOR MORE ALLOTMENTS

LEWES is suffering from a serious shortage of allotments. And something is going to be done about it.

There are currently 180 plots in the town and all are being used by healthy-eating locals.

The rub is there are 174 people on Lewes Town Council's waiting list.

Some people have been waiting for years for a piece of land. It is not uncommon to wait for 10 years to get a patch in the ever-popular Paddock allotments.

Now Cllr John Webber is to bring the issue before Lewes Town Council at its full meeting on Thursday (22nd) at 7.30pm in Lewes Town Hall.

And he wants townsfolk to turn up en masse to show their support.

'There are 174 people on the official waiting list but I suspect there are many others who would like a piece of ground on which to grow their own fruit and vegetables,' he said.
