SECRECY surrounds a 'management review' taking place at Herstmonceux Primary School.

The review is being carried out by education officers from county council. Such reviews are not routine and are only carried out in exceptional circumstances, said a county council spokesman.

Jan Koops, chair of governors, refused to give details about the reason for the review.

'The headteacher is still in her post,' he said, 'and we expect her to stay there. We are working with and fully supporting the education authority.'

A county council spokesman said: 'We are currently undertaking a review in order to assist the school and governing body in determining an effective route to ensure continuous school improvement.

'As part of this process staff, parents and governors have been interviewed to seek their views.

'No formal allegations of bullying have been made against the headteacher or any member of the senior management team of Herstmonceux Primary School.'

The Express was unable to make contact with the headmistress for a comment.
