LENT LUNCHES: Lent Lunches continue today, March 31, at Margaret's home at 2 Forge Cottages, The Green at 12noon until 1.30pm. They are going well, last week raised £102 with about 20 people attending. You are invited to enjoy homemade soup and crusty bread for just £3 each. This weeks menu includes lentil, butternut squash , hearty turkey and vegetable and an old favourite, mushroom so there is lots of choice. All funds are to be shared between two charities, the Seaview project for the homeless, based in St Leonards and Farm Africa. All are welcome to attend today in the company of friends old and new. These lunches will run for one more Friday after today.

SDGS SPRING SHOW: Sedlescombe and District Garden Society are holding their Spring Show on Saturday April 1 in the Village Hall. Come along at 2pm and enjoy the exhibits, perhaps some of which may be yours! Forms and schedules can be found for the society shows on their website www.sedlescombegardensociety.org.uk and forms can also be found in the Post office and Shop in Sedlescombe or give the Show Secretary a ring on 870455. There will also be a Look and Buy Art Exhibition by the Staplecross and Hollington Art Groups. Both groups have been running for over 12 years, tutored by Hilary Ganly. Come along and find out how you can learn to paint or improve your painting skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

ST JOHNS PARISH CHURCH FAMILY SERVICE: This Sunday April 2 is the monthly family service at 10.30am when the children help with the readings. There is no communion so it is a shortened service and as always it will be followed by tea and coffee

SEDLESCOMBE PLAYERS PRODUCTION: Sedlescombe Players present ‘Two into One’ - A Comedy by Ray Cooney, to be performed in Sedlescombe Village Hall on May 17 and 18, tickets are £12 with no food. Performances on May 19 and 20 tickets are £16 with a light supper served in the interval. Tickets go on sale on Monday April 3 2017. MINI MARKET AND COFFEE MORNING: The next coffee morning and mini market will be on Thursday April 6 from 10am to 11.30am in Sedlescombe village hall. All the usual goodies, books, puzzles, bric a brac, bird food , home baking and preserves plus a chance to be weighed and check those winter pounds you may have put on , in confidence of course. Rounded off with coffee tea and scones, just £1,all helping to raise funds for our parish church. Everyone is welcome.

EASTER LILIES: Sunday April 2 is the last day to order your Easter lilies in memory of loved ones at £2 each. These lilies will be used to decorate the church at Easter. All names will be included on the roll of honour which will be on display in church over Eastertide. Envelopes to order will be available in church this Sunday or you can call Sylvia on 870688 or Margaret on 870808 to order or find out more details.

GRAND QUIZ AND SUPPER: Sedlescombe and district flower club are organising a quiz and supper evening for Wednesday April 12 at the village hall. You are invited to take part in this fundraising event, teams of six are the order of the evening but don’t worry if you are not in a team and would like to take part, new friends will be waiting for you to make a dream team ! The questions will not all be on flowers but rounds on a broad range of subjects. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. SPRING FAYRE ON THE GREEN: The Spring Fayre, on the Green and in the Queens Head garden, takes place this year on Saturday May 13. Tables are available to hire at a cost of £10 payable in advance . To book or for further details please contact Reg on 870258.

BIG EASTER ART EXHIBITION: Over the Easter weekend Friday April 14 until Monday April 17, Sedlescombe village hall will play host to the big Easter Art Exhibition. This is an exclusive fine art show in aid of St Michaels hospice, that is usually in Pett every year but now we will have the opportunity to visit right on our own doorstep. There will be original works from over 40 artists , demonstrations, portrait paintings and an excellent raffle throughout the weekend. Free entry and car parking. Refreshments available. ST MICHAELS HOSPICE CELEBRATORY TEAS: To celebrate the 30th anniversary of St Michael’s Hospice, they are inviting all supporters to FREE celebratory teas, which are taking place in six locations throughout Hastings and Rother. On Saturday May 13, a Celebratory Tea is taking place at Sedlescombe Village Hall, with a choice of two sittings at 2pm and 4.30pm. The events are completely free, with thanks to the Big Lottery Fund. There will be afternoon tea and live music for all to enjoy. Spaces are limited, so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Bookings can be made at www.stmichaelshospice.com/teas

ST JOHNS PARISH CHURCH: Margaret reports that the Mothering Sunday service was a joy, a beautiful sunny day, lots of families,great singing and a thought provoking talk by Father Kevinabout the role of mothers and the origins of Mothering Sunday. All the ladies took a posy of flowers home. There was lots of chat at refreshment time.
