LENT LUNCHES: Today, Friday March 18, Margaret will be hosting the last of the Lent lunches at 2 Forge Cottages, The Green, Sedlescombe at 12 noon until 1.30 pm. You are invited to enjoy a bowl or two of soup and crusty bread, meet with friends old and new, all for just £3. You will be made very welcome. All proceeds over the weeks will be donated to the charity, Farm Africa and a local charity, The Seaview Project in St Leonards.

SEDLESCOMBE SPORTS ASSOCIATION: If you are interested in sport and would like to help in your community. The association is in need of a volunteer to join their small committee taking on the role of secretary. Thanks must go to Derek Wright who has performed this role so well over the past few years, but he is due to leave the village soon and needs to relinquish his post. This is in no way an onerous job, in fact the committee meet in the pub around three to four times a year, to discuss the running of the sports field and facilities. Come on, please do not be shy – If you think you may be interested and would like to arrange to discuss what is involved then please contact me, David Torrance (Treasurer) on 870344 or Ashley Davey on 870615.

SEDLESCOMBE ‘S GOT TALENT: A new date has been arranged for this event – Friday May 20 in the village hall, We are hoping to see singers , dancers, jugglers , musicians , in fact all types of entertainment are welcome to join in from Sedlescombe and the surrounding area. Places will be limited to allow for a fair opportunity for all taking part. There is no fee to enter and there will be a £100 awarded to the winner and runner up prizes too. PARISH CHURCH EASTER SERVICES: The weekend of Easter starts at St John the Baptist church with the Agate feast service on Maundy Thursday at 7pm, if you should be hoping to attend please could you just give a quick ring to 870471 to assist with catering, however I am sure you would be most welcome if you should make a last minute decision .

On March 25, Good Friday, the service will start at 2pm and on Saturday March 26 there will be an Easter service of lights in the evening at 8pm. March 27, Easter Sunday, the Eucharist service takes place at 10.30am.

VIEWING EASTER LILIES: Lilies in memory of loved ones will be decorating St John the Baptist church over the Easter period. They will be on view during services but also throughout the Easter weekend on Sunday March 27 from 12.30pm to 4.30pm and again on March 28, Bank Holiday Monday from 10am to 4pm. Tea and cake will be available for visitors. This is a good opportunity to visit view and enjoy this heritage village building.

YOUR EU VOTE: Don’t miss out on chance to vote in EU poll. People in Rother are being urged to ‘get in early’ to ensure they can have their say on Britain’s future in Europe. Rother District Council has already seen a spike in people registering to vote since David Cameron announced a referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU would be held on Thursday, June 23. The council is encouraging residents who are not registered to vote to do so as early as possible, and for people who would like a postal or proxy vote not to leave it until the last minute. The final deadline for registration is June 7, applications for a postal vote close on the following day while applications for a proxy vote, where an elector nominates someone to vote on their behalf, must be received by June 15. Postal votes will be sent out in the first week of June, but people who leave it until close to the deadline to apply for a postal vote will not receive their ballot until about a week before the election. Anyone who is not sure if they’re registered to vote can check by emailing their name and address to [email protected] . Forms to apply for a postal or proxy vote can be downloaded from the EU referendum section of the elections pages at www.rother.gov.uk/elections or requested by emailing [email protected] and must be signed and returned.
