ADVENT CALENDARS: All those of you who have been waiting to start opening your advent calendars, you are now four chocolates gone, four melts down your candle, or if you are really elaborate then four drawers in with small gifts in each one. I wonder if anyone still has the traditional advent calendar anymore when you simply opened the door to see an image relating to Christmas?

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH CHURCH: This Sunday December 6 at 10.30am is the Christingle Family Service. Margaret writes” This is when we light candles in an orange and circle the church with them. The orange represents the world, a red band round it is the blood of Christ, the candle the light of the world and four fruit sweets on cocktail sticks represent the four seasons of the year. We welcome everyone young or not so young to join us for this enchanting service. As always coffee, tea and biscuits will served after the service”

SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT GARDEN SOCIETY: The Sedlescombe and District Garden Society have invited Barry Newman, the Chairman of the National Vegetable Society, to give a talk on “The Modern Kitchen Garden” on Tuesday December 8 at 2.30 p.m. in the Village Hall. By popular request, the talk will be followed by a full Afternoon Tea, provided by the ladies of the committee. We ask that, if you wish to join us for the Tea, please do not delay in reserving your tickets so that we can get accurate numbers for the catering. Please phone Sue on 01580 831996, to reserve your tickets, which are free to members. Non-members are welcome at a cost of £5.00 but don’t forget a family membership is still only £10.00 for the year.

PESTALOZZI WINTER FAYRE AND RAFFLE: It was a busy day last Saturday when there were two fayres in the village this week it is the turn of Pestalozzi with their Winter Wonder World event open from 10am to 3pm on Saturday December 5. The event runs in Swiss Hall . If you are not able to make it but would like to be part of their day then the 2015 Winter Raffle has some incredible prizes to offer this year such as 1st Prize: £200 cash, 2nd Prize: Christmas dinner ingredients for 8 (worth £100 from COOK), 3rd Prize: A meal for 2 at The Queens Head plus many other super prizes , a full list can be seen on www.pestalozzi.org.uk. SENIORS CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Seniors party this year is on Friday December 18 in the village hall at 5pm. This event is open to all villagers over the 60 so if you have reached that magic age, you are invited to come and share in the seasonal buffet, drinks and entertainment. If you would like to be included, tickets are now available at just £4 per person for this festive celebration, get yours now from Sedlescombe stores or the Clockhouse

VISIT LOCAL ART AT THE DECEMBER ART SHOW: The Powder Mills Hotel, Battle plays host to the December Art Show from December 1 to December 6 and is open every day from 10am to 8pm. The show gives you an opportunity to see the work of seven local artists including Sedlescombe artist Mark Fisher. Each one creating extraordinary and captivating art. Wildlife, architecture, landscape, cityscapes and portraits, impressionistic, abstract, figurative and realism. Executed in a variety of media including acrylic, watercolour, pen and ink, oil and mixed media incorporating textured surface, metal and collage. A feast of variety to enjoy, delight and intrigue.Comments from visitors last year included “A beautiful collection to visit” “Irresistible artwork, so many that I wanted to take home, I bought some cards and I’m getting something special for Christmas”

PARISH CHURCH ADVENT FAIR: Margaret writes “What a good day we had last Saturday at our Advent Fair, the hall looked very festive as did some of the helpers to greet our visitors! The lunchtime start was very successful, the aroma of hot soup on the hob was very tempting. . The grand total raised from the Advent fair and the Draw was £1453.39. We thank all our helpers and visitors and hope you enjoyed the day”

SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT FLOWER CLUB: The meeting for December 9 in Sedlescombe village hall is the club Christmas party social evening. All members should have received a letter outlining the evening, to assist with catering please could you ensure that you let Sheila 01797 223923 or Janet 01424 773708 know that you are coming.
